Recap: Microsoft E3 press conference

Microsoft’s 90 minute press conference just ended and I’m going to write a quick recap since the EA press conference is starting within an hour.

Microsoft had a lot to make up for since their press conference of last year was bad. And I mean BAD. It’s when the Xbox One got its nickname ‘Xbone’ and when gamers all over the world decided to boycott Xbox’s next console. Things have been said, hearts have been broken. But let’s move on to 2014.

Since Twitch was the official host of the E3 streams, I decided to watch the stream there, but the after the pre-show the website got overloaded so I switched to IGN which worked perfectly. The pre-show was extremely non-intresting so I won’t bore you by telling you more about it. Here a list of all the games covered in the press conference:

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

We knew this game was coming so no surprises there. No Xbox exclusive. They showed us a trailer and some in-game footage which I guess was supposed to be live but I have my doubts. Not a fan. But I think fans would’ve liked it.

Forza 5

They announced the Nurburgring, a DLC racetrack for the existing Xbox 5.

Forza Horizon 2

An Xbox exclusive. They showed a trailer of the upcoming Forza game, featuring a day-night system, weather and an open world. Release date is September 30.

Evolve

This looked kinda cool. Again, not a new announcement, but they did show us a trailer. A multilayer game where you play either in a team against a monster or as a monster. Not an Xbox exclusive. Beta is playable this autumn. From the creators of Left 4 Dead.

Assassins Creed Unity

They showed us gameplay (from which I also don’t think was live). The upcoming Assassins Creed which takes place during the French revolution (which we already knew). Trailer featured co-op. Looked really cool. Not Xbox exclusive.

Dragon Age Inquisition

Trailer. Release date October 7. Not Xbox exclusive.

Sunset Overdrive

An xbox Exlusive again! Reallyreally cool trailer and some gameplay. This cartoony game is about a city where people turned into monsters (who look like giant vaginas) because of energy drink. They highlighted customizable characters and the ability to co-op. Release date october 28.

Death Rising 3 DLC

Cool looking DLC in honor of the 31st anniversary of Capcom. A multplayer funtime cosplay DLC (no other words to describe it)

Dance Central Disney Fantasia Music Evolved

Xbox Exclusive. Title says it all

Dance Central Spotlight

Dito

Fable Legends

Finally an announcement of something we didn’t already know about. Seems like a Fable MMO where you can also play as the villain in some kind of god mode. Looked cool but there seems to be nothing left of the original Fable game concept.

Project Spark

An Xbox and PC Exclusive. This game-maker game is already in beta version. They showed us a trailer and the option to play as Conker from Conker’s Bad Fur Day. But we don’t need a cameo of Conker. We need Conker’s Bad Fur Day 2.

Ori and the Blind Forest

A cool anime-looking trailer of a new Xbox exclusive platformer. Release date is this autumn.

Halo 5

Another Xbox exclusive. Trailer.

Halo Master Chief Collection

Halo 1 Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3 and Halo 4 on 1 disc. The game comes with Halo Nightfall, which is a television series and a prequel on Halo 5 and beta access to Halo 5. Release

Inside

A trailer of an Indie-looking game. Looked cool. Multiplatform.

ID@Xbox

Microsoft tells that Xbox One will be open(er) to Indie games. Something Xbox 360 wasn’t really.

Rise of the Tombraider

Finally something I’m excited about. This trailer of the new Tomb Raider game shows Lara Croft at a psychologist talking about traumatic events in the previous game. Exiting new announcement, multiplatform.

Witcher III

Gameplay featuring open world.

Phantom Dust

A trailer of the remake of Phantom Dust (?) Never heard of the original game though. Xbox Exclusive.

Tom Clancy: The Division

Gameplay of the upcoming Tom Clancy game.

Scalebound

Really cool looking trailer of a newly announced Xbox Exclusive Game. Fighting monsters with dragons. From Platinum Games.

Crackdown

Another remake. Trailer was shown.

My thoughts:

Microsoft took the safe road by showing us a bunch of games. They did nothing wrong, but there were no special moments either. Almost all games in which I’m interested in are multiplatform. Me and my boyfriend still need to choose between Playstation and Xbox, and this did not convince us to pick Microsoft.
