YouTube Sunday (finally!)

Hi my hot cute girly geeks and boy geeks of course. Sigh; finally have the time to do a proper YouTube Sunday again. This last month has been crazy. I had to pick up the workload for a colleague who went on a 4 week holiday and after that I had my own vacation break. But that also meant I was to freaking tired during the week to gather geek vids for you guys. When I encountered one I saved it. But I never posted them. So now, on the last day of my holiday (eugh, I need to start working again tomorrow) I’ll post them all at once.

So now, still in my pyjamas, cause you know, it’s Sunday, I’ll be sorting through about 40 vids I collected. I hope you’ll enjoy them. Some may be a bit old, but nevertheless fun to watch. Enjoy!

Seeing as the movie How to train your dragon 2 is coming out June 2014, here’s something to kill the hiatus for you in between waits. The making of part 1: http://youtu.be/PQMBA4896pU if you go to the geek who posted it, there is more where that came from 😉

I first encountered the song Sail by Awolnation in a fanvid made for Sherlock: http://youtu.be/tderL0tZ2jo and I think this is one of the most awesome fanmade vids with this song; it fits in every way possible. And now I found a Supernatural one as well!: http://youtu.be/IbQEyH9bdlg  I mean, this song, is just perfect if you’re having a crappy day and want to get it out of your system by playing angry music and shouting along with it. It’s one of my favourite songs on my mp3 player.

Ok, this is old news for a lot of Sherlockians and a lot of rumours online as we wait for season 3. But fake scenes??? What?: http://youtu.be/epIch_VCVp8 (no Setlock involved in this vid)

A bit of Sherlock season 3 in this drama trailer by BBC: http://youtu.be/ThHEcmDBXpg when is the wait finally over!

The Little Flavour teaser trailer has finally landed, and when it came out, my social media exploded, it’s short, it’s bloody and I need more: http://youtu.be/7mghu5ELe_c

Neutron creme! I’m talking about Star Trek obviously, this vid is a crappy quality, but Karl Urban explains a bit about is: http://youtu.be/xPdrKDh_olw

Talking about Star trek, here’s the honest trailer: http://youtu.be/6B22Uy7SBe4

So what happens if you cross Harry Potter with Doctor Who? http://youtu.be/3aLBLb8DQO4  another fanvid.

There are countless of version online for the cup song (song by Anna Kendrick in Pitch Perfect the movie), but I really like this one as it’s in Gaelic: http://youtu.be/nFtfk0bZVRM

I’m going to Gent in two weeks to see the Julian Assange movie ‘the Fifth Estate’ here’s Julian’s reaction to Benedict’s accent: http://youtu.be/C-X8dxsuOOw I can’t wait to see this movie! Oh and a bit more Fifth Estate: http://youtu.be/ZTzCpjT2ds8

More Benedict? Yes please: another interview with Benedict: http://youtu.be/VtfOxmOzcec  and one more: http://youtu.be/JeEQ2wbRxHY  oh ok, I’ll give you another one: http://youtu.be/iY9lcIHzREc

Although I haven’t watched Merlin (seriously I tried, several times) I did enjoy this children’s in need vid the cast made: http://youtu.be/5k0DinFR5rw

Winter is coming, but not season 4 of Game of Thrones, we still have to wait for some time. Until then, enjoy this extended version of the intro: http://youtu.be/EyJUx2co12c

Season 8 gagreel Supernatural!!! http://youtu.be/6Xlste6kFmk they are the best! Ladies, hold on to your ovaries for this one.

Spoilers people, for Supernatural season 9: http://youtu.be/DfcKMlFCqiU Oh god, is it October yet? Also a nice Castiel and & Crowley promo (insert exploding ovaries here…): http://youtu.be/3anPgm0NQXY (can I make that into a ringtone ‘Hello Crowley here, aka the King of Hell) and of course the extended promo, again, spoilers: http://youtu.be/wgH-oNilKGc

Tom Hiddleston and Cookie monster, do I need to explain myself?: http://youtu.be/b_ubVVnWglk

This is seriously one of the craziest vids I have seen. And it’s a big hit on tumblr as well, what does the fox say: http://youtu.be/jofNR_WkoCE

Since we are still waiting for the 50th trailer to come out, at least for the ones who didn’t go to ComicCon, there are a lot of fanmade trailers popping up, enjoy this one: http://youtu.be/_PBlVhQcGT4  also a fanmade intro for Peter Capaldi: http://youtu.be/oXOBHnWiinY

And also a bit of behind the scenes for Doctor Who as well: http://youtu.be/QPqmOrf1Y9E and a vid about the 10th Doctor’s sonic screwdriver universal remote control: http://youtu.be/9f16q0ZQ2D8 just shut up and take my money!

Neville what happened to you? Innuendo bingo with Matthew Lewis: http://youtu.be/UZoAl8-XQmo

David Tennant on the Proclaimers: http://youtu.be/l5RXMt7rIXo  Oh god, that accent.

Ohhh new trailer for you guys, Disney’s frozen: http://youtu.be/TbQm5doF_Uc  Seriously, I’m just a big kid, geeking out over this trailer.

Synopsis according to Goodreads:

According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (the world’s only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655, before she exploded), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner.

So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon—both of whom have lived amongst Earth’s mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle—are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture.

And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist . . .

My Thoughts:

Pretty much throughout reading the book and certainly after finished my thoughts were along the line of ‘what the fuck did I just read?’

And almost immediately after reading it; ‘how the hell am I going to write a review about this book.’ But I am gonna try to do the book justice by this review.

The story is confusing as hell (or heaven), storylines cross each other just about every other page, the blasphemy is dripping of the pages, and I loved every second of it.

Ok, so I’m a huge Supernatural fan I couldn’t help but picture Crowley in the form as Mark Sheppard. (If someone is making a movie out of this book, please cast him for the role. There is only one Crowley and that’s Mark) But that’s just a quick side note.

Having met both authors in real life and reading other books by them I can agree this is the best writing collaboration out there.

The age old story of Good versus Evil, turning out to be Good , with a dash of Evil inside and Evil with a splash of Good in the Angel  Aziraphale and the Demon Crowley roaming the earth and enjoying each other’s company.

But those days are numbered as the apocalypse is foretold to start. But Hell seems to have misplaced its Anti-Christ and Heaven really wants to start war on earth to settle the score about which side will win.

Mix in ancient prophecies Agnes Nutter made. Or think more along the line how a witch from the 17th century writing up accurate prophecies about present day. She must have been one confused witch, seeing computers and cars and everything before they were invented.

And we have a lovely hell-hound being not so hellish because his owner wants him to be more puppy than killing monster on four paws.

Don’t forget the four horsemen, although Pestilence retired after the discovery of penicillin in 1936, and who is now being replaced by Pollution. But the four horsemen also adapted to modern life and are more like the original Hell’s Angels, or Hell’s demons, or Hell’s something.

We also have some good old fashioned witch hunters, a true witch living next door to the Anti-Christ, a prostitute with a scooter, a boy not being the Anti-Christ, the Them, some true Hell’s Angels, Satanic sisters and maggots.

Are you confused yet? Good, now go read the book to make some sense in all of this!

Buy that book, aka buttons:

Rating and recommendation:

I rate this book a solid 9 out of 10, or 5 out of 5 stars if you use the Goodreads rating system.

Why should you read it? Well, if you love a funny fantasy story, are a fan of either or both Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, love a good story about blasphemy which you don’t need to take serious, or believe me on my trustworthy big blue eyes, pick up a copy.

Why shouldn’t you read it? You hate the works of either or both Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett (seriously, how can you not like them? I understand if you don’t like some of their works, but all of it?) You are looking for a quick read to distract you, you don’t like people making fun of your religion. Then back away from the book, no seriously, back away and go read the yellow pages.

I hope you enjoyed this review, lots of love, your own hot cute girly geek, Mendy

Neil Gaiman Booksigning in Rotterdam.

Hi my hot cute girly geeks and boy geeks of course. As promised, my blog about the Neil Gaiman Booksigning in Rotterdam I attended last Friday night.

DSC_0002

I’ve been looking forward to this event for weeks now. Driving everybody around me crazy by shouting at random times throughout the day, ‘I’m gonna meet Neil Gaiman!’

But let’s begin at the beginning. A couple of weeks ago I saw the event for the signing in Utrecht and geeked out. Neil Gaiman coming to the Netherlands, signing his new book! Whatever it took, I needed to be there. Because a lot of my friends are also into this amazing writer, I posted a shout out at my fellow DCC members. (For the ones that don’t know what that is, it’s the Dutch Cumber Collective, an amazing group of crazy ladies, like myself, who have an appreciation of the actor Benedict Cumberbatch.) And seeing as Benedict preformed the Angel Islington in Neil’s latest Neverwhere adaptation, some were bound to want to join me.

The lovely Lilia pointed me towards the signing in Rotterdam, and unlike Utrecht, you needed to reserve places. So I did just that and two days later I got the conformation about my 2 tickets. Lokke, another DCC member, wanted that second spot, so the three of us made plans to attend the event.

DSC_0001

Looking back at the going to Rotterdam was the best decision I made. Because of the whole Gaiman Gate scandal. For further information about what happened I’ll refer you to another blog, who was a victim at the miscalculation of the popularity of Neil here in the Netherlands: http://www.snugglyoranges.com/2013/08/how-polare-dutch-bookstore-crushed.html

Ok, that’s enough of the Gaiman Gate scandal for now.

Because I’m also a huge whovian and I loved the episodes Neil wrote for the series I decided to make a present for him. You guys know by now I make these lovely stuffed Adipose, and that was the perfect gift for Neil. And I added a little something extra to this one. Check it out. How cool is this!

DSC_0011

So after working all day, carrying with me my newly bought copy of Neverwhere (I already had an eBook version, but they’re a bit hard to sign) and my Adipose I met up with Lilia to grab a bite to eat and go to the bookstore for more information about how the event was going to progress.

We were welcome at 18.30 for signing in, buying a copy of The Ocean at the End of the Lane and getting to our seats. Because we were early we got really good seats at the second row from the front and we saved a spot for Lokke who would be a bit later. Oh and I bought one of the few hardcover English versions.

DSC_0004

Neil came in and disappeared upstairs after a loud applause of the people already attending and the waiting happened. It was fun to hear so many people around you talk about Neil, Neverwhere, Doctor Who and Sherlock. I spotted a lot of Tardisses, Tom Baker bags, Whovian t-shirts and lots and lots more.

Because it was getting later and later and people were still in the queue for buying their books, Polare decided to start the event. And under loud applause Neil Gaiman entered the stage to be interviewed by the Dutch author Marcel van Driel. (I forgot his name while writing the blog and he contacted me, so I’m rectifying my lazy mistake.) Here is the link to his Goodreads page where you can find all the info about him and the books he wrote: http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/3274404.Marcel_van_Driel

DSC_0030

I think I listened in awe, like the rest of the audience to Neil talking about writing, Amanda, Dutch in-laws, rearranging the spice rack by alphabet, Doctor Who and much, much more. Check out one of the vids I shot that night. Oh and the rest I’m keeping in my private collection, but I had to share this one.

After Neil was done with being interviewed, although I don’t know if you can call it an interview, if the man starts talking he doesn’t stop, thank god for that! I would love to hear more!

DSC_0036

The room just about scrambled towards the signing table. Yep us Dutchies aren’t really organized like that. I’m ashamed for this thing. I mean, we all get a turn to get our books signed people. I know it’s late, I know people are tired, but can we just keep ourselves a bit more civilized?

Because we had good spots for the interview we ended up almost being last for the signing, but we didn’t mind. Us ladies had a lot to talk about and meeting fellow fans in line.

And finally it was our turn to meet and greet one of the (in my opinion) most amazing fantasy authors. Lokke thanked Neil for Neverwhere and the Angels Islington. And Neil spotted her as a Benedict fan (yes, we all are, blame Benedict, not us).DSC_0043

I thanked him for the amazing Doctor Who episodes he wrote and gave him the Adipose I made. I think he was a bit surprised someone brought him a gift and he looked up, took the Adipose and noticed the bowtie. ‘Oh look he has a little bowtie!’ ‘Yeah,’ I said, ‘because’ and he finished my sentence ‘bowties are cool!’ And he showed us a little metal pin he was wearing on his jacket, made by another fan. It was a little Cyperman. He also concluded he hoped he will be invited to write more stories for Doctor Who.

IMG-20130816-WA0005

Moffat! You make this happen! Let Mr. Gaiman write some amazing episodes for Peter Capaldi!

So that concludes the booksigning with Neil Gaiman, at Polare in Rotterdam.

DSC_0002

And Neil, if you are reading this. Thank you, again, for a wonderful night, for being such an amazing and inspiring author, for sharing your stories with us, for giving us a bit of your spare time to meet you, for Idris and new Cybermen, for the Angel Islington and Mind the Gap, for getting us back into reading, for making us better writers, Thank You!
