You have been warned.

Here goes nothing: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is either bad canon or a good fanfic. Short explanation: I loved the new characters and the development of the old ones, and the dynamics between them, but story-wise is isn’t that good. Lots of tropes and screwing up established lore. Now I could ‘just’ write a review of the book, but I actually feel like going in-depth about the subject that ruined the story most for me: Time travel.

Time travel is tricky. It can be confusing, it has many forms and it’s hard to do it good. Time travel as explained in the 3rth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban, was done quite well in my opinion. However, now they’ve revisited the subject in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, they didn’t do so well. To explain, I need to visit some other franchises and forms of time travel where it is actually done well.

Prince of Persia: Undoing actions by rewinding
In Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, you are able to rewind time for a bit. Using this mechanic, you can undo a short period of time and start over. You end up in your own body where it was a few minutes ago, not creating any doppelgangers. [Disclaimer: in later PoP games this mechanic gets more complicated and elaborated, but let’s leave it at this for now]

Life is Strange: Creating an alternate universe by rewinding
In Life is Strange, your character has the same kind of ability as you have in Prince of Persia. You have the ability to rewind time for about 5 minutes, placing your ‘mind’ in your body where it was 5 minutes ago (so no doppelgangers), enabling you to make better choices. However, the timeline where you came from keeps existing, so by travelling back in time, you create an alternate universe in which different choices are made. Your body keeps existing in the original timeline too, so you’re actually ‘copying’ your mind and placing it in your body of 5 minutes ago, resulting in 2 you’s in 2 different universes.

Life is Strange, Steins;Gate and the Butterfly Effect: Travelling back and forth in time, memory gap versus memory addition
In both Life is Strange and Steins;Gate, you’re able to change events of the past, resulting in alternate universes where different choices were made. However, right after the changed event, the protagonist fast forwards to the alternate universe version of current time. As a result, the protagonist does not have knowledge of anything that took place between the changed event and the present, resulting in a lot of confusion. In the Butterfly Effect, the protagonist is also able to change events in the past, and travels back to the alternate present right after. However, the protagonist gains added memories of events that took place in that alternate universe. So the protagonist ends up having memories of 2 different lives.

Doctor Who: Staying in the same universe
The Doctor travels back and forth in time. However, changing the past does not result in an alternate universe. In fact, everything he changes in the past has already happened, thereby he is not really able to change the past which would otherwise result in an alternate future (there are exceptions, but this is how it generally goes, Doctor Who is very wibbly-wobbly timey wimey). Example: Let’s say he can’t find his wallet in the morning, but some time later he finds it in a strange place. Later that day he travels 24 hours back in time, and he moves his wallet from the usual place to the strange place. He didn’t actually change anything, because it already happened. Another interesting point is that he does not copy his mind and places it in a former version of himself, but he physically travels back in time. As a result, he disappears in the present time and 2 versions of him exist in the past.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: Closing the loop
The mechanics of time travel in HP 3 are very similar to Doctor Who. Initially, Hermione uses the Time Turner to travel back short amounts of time to be able to follow multiple classes at once. She physically travels back in time, so she disappears in the present, resulting in a double Hermione in the past. Because Hermione only travels back a short amount of time, it isn’t necessary to travel back to the present. She just has to wait until her doppelganger travels back like she did, and take her place as soon as the doppelganger disappears (closing the loop). It is important to note that there are no alternate universes created in this case: Hermione is present in all classes at once, she isn’t creating different universes in which she follows different classes in each one. Later in the story, Harry sees his father creating a Patronus, and later he travels to the past, creating a Patronus in sight of Past-Harry, realizing he didn’t see his father but himself. This follows the ‘It has already happened’ logic. Same goes for saving Buckbeak: They didn’t create one universe where he was saved and one where he wasn’t saved: They actually already saved him in the past.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: A hot mess
I’m going to dissect this by pointing out facts that confused me or contradict the logic used in HP 3.

They are able to create an alternate universe
Albus and Scorpius get their hands on a Time Turner. They travel back a huge amount of time, change events, and travel back to the present. But instead of staying in the same timeline like in HP 3, they create an alternative timeline, and travel back to the present of that alternate timeline. This leaves them with a memory gap, similar to the mechanics in Life is Strange and Steins;Gate. There is nothing wrong with this mechanic on its own, but according to the lore that was established in HP 3, they should not be able to create an alternate timeline, but just travel back and forth in the same universe, not being able to really change things because everything has already happened. Granted, in the end the undo their changes and end up in the original timeline, but why does saving Buckbeak not create an alternate timeline, while Expelliarmus-ing Cedric does?

Abandoned universes stop existing
In one of the timelines where they end up, Ron and Hermione sacrifice themselves so that Scorpius is able to travel in time again to set things right. This suggests that when someone travels back in time, the abandoned timeline stops existing. Why would Ron and Hermione sacrifice themselves if their terrible universe would just keep on existing without them? Also,  Albus and Scorpius are physically time travelling (like in Doctor Who and HP3). By that logic, if universes would keep existing when they’re abandoned by the protagonists, they’re creating universes where they have forever disappeared. However, the book actually gives contradicting information, because when Albus and Scorpius have disappeared in the original timeline (travelled back in time), HP and gang keep on searching for them, proving that timelines keep existing after all. Which leaves 2 options: 1) all universes keep existing, resulting in universes where Albus and Scorpius have disappeared forever and Hemione’s and Ron’s sacrifice was in vain. 2) The original timeline keeps existing and newly created alternate timelines stop existing as soon as they’re abandoned.

They don’t follow their own logic
Because they screw up time so much, Albus and Scorpius indirectly kill Harry Potter, resulting in Albus never being born. Albus actually disappears at that point, but Scorpius is still there. However, if Albus was never born, Scorpius would never have any motivation to travel back in time in the first place, so by that logic he should disappear as well, which he doesn’t.

They create doppelgangers but they don’t
Albus and Scorpius physically travel back in time. So their bodies disappear in current time, and by that logic they should create doppelgangers in the past (this literally happens in HP 3). Because they travel back to a time where they haven’t been born yet, this doesn’t apply. But when they travel back to the (alternate) present, their mind is suddenly in the bodies of their alternate selves, in stead of creating a doppelganger, which would make more sense, following previous logic.

In conclusion:
The only way for time travel in HP and the Cursed Child to make sense is to follow these rules:

  • When you travel back in time but don’t travel back, but just wait until the loop is closed, you don’t create an alternate universe (HP 3), however, when you travel back in time, change events, and then fast forward back to the present, you have created an alternate timeline (HP and the Cursed Child). Or creating alternate universes just happens randomly. Or it depends on what you change. Or something.
  • The original timeline keeps existing, newly created alternate timelines stop existing as soon as they’re abandoned. Or you create multiple timelines where you have disappeared forever.
  • Preventing your own birth causes you to disappear, preventing events that caused you to time travel in the first place changes nothing. Because.
  • Travelling back to a time where you already exist creates a doppelganger, travelling to an alternate universe where you already exist doesn’t, your mind is transferred to the alternate you, leaving no memories of events in the alternate timeline prior to your transfer.

As you can see these rules are convoluted and obviously created in hindsight. Time travel logic in HP 3 was great: simple, clear rules, no exceptions. These new rules contradict everything established in HP 3, which is a real shame. Now I know it’s a play and it’s meant to be seen, not read. But J.K. said this is canon. So I really think it’s too bad that they’ve screwed up the otherwise great time-travel mechanics.

Dutch Comic Con 2015

Hi my hot cute girly geeks and boy geeks of course. Dutch Comic Con happened last weekend. It was the first ever Dutch Comic Con in the Netherlands. And I attended the whole weekend.  DSC_0619

I’ve been excited for this for months, keeping up with the guests who were attending, the stands, the amazing geeky cars and planning for two whole days of cosplaying for the first time ever.

DSC_0620

And although a couple weeks prior to the start of DCC there were a lot of rumours online about the people organizing DCC and money issues, a weekend before the start, some guests started to cancel because there were no flights or hotels booked. It all turned out in the end.

DSC_0926

Because this was the first time, you can expect some things not to well organised, such as some part of the venue were really dark (sucks taking pictures), no chairs for the Q&A, getting photo ops not organised, and the organizer and vendors didn’t expect so many people. We had 16.000 for the first day! For a first time con, that’s really amazing!

DSC_0850

As expected there were a lot of people cosplaying. Not as much as you expect attending an US con. On Saturday maybe 30-40 percent and on Sunday 20 percent. But for us Dutchies that is a lot. The level of cosplay was amazing. Ok you had the crazy people wearing onesies and other really mismatched stuff, but loads of people really did put up there best show.

DSC_0884

The vendors were amazing. So much geeky stuff, so little money! You could get everything your geeky heart desired. From comics, to pop vinyl’s, to full Japanese Manga body pillows to amazing handcrafted jewellery.

DSC_0696DSC_0929

I attended Comic Con with my lovely geeky friend Nanayah (who also took all the pictures, kudos to her and her amazing camera!) The first day we stood in line for ages to get our photo ops. I bought a photo op with Osric Chau (Kevin Tran on Supernatural) and Marnix van den Broeke (he plays the Silence in Doctor Who, the werewolf on Harry Potter and Death in the Hogfather). We also made some new friends waiting in line. The Supernatural fandom is just epic!

IMG_20150328_185816

We attended the Q&A with Osric on the first and second day and I shot some vids (which I still need to upload on YouTube, I had a very busy week, sorry). We had no idea it was so crazy busy until we left the Q&A and although we did look at the merchandise, it was too busy to really buy anything.

IMG_20150328_185551

We left to get a signed photo with Osric. I presented him my homemade Gishwhes 2015 hat and some syrup waffles. And I got an unexpected hug. Osric gives the best hugs!

FB_IMG_1427715662502 DSC_0750

After that is was time for my photo op with Marnix. He was a last minute announced guest and he’s not really know for his work. I was sad to learn only 3 people bought a photo op with him on Saturday, hopefully he got more fans on Sunday. The good this was I had some time to chat with him and laugh about getting my picture taking with him. He’s freakishly tall, 2.01 m or 6’7 tall! While I am 1.67 m or 5’4. The photographer ended up getting a step stool to get both of us in the picture!

DSC_0889

We looked around some more, met up with some other friends, seeing loads of Doctors. Funny thing as you are dressed up as the Doctor and see another Doctor we greet each other with a “Doctor!” “Doctor!”

DSC_0645

We also bought two ‘dating for geeks’ comics and got them signed before getting our pictures taken with Osric, my second Osric hug in a day!

DSC_0803

The second day I went as Osgood from Doctor Who and I was early at the con, basically to buy some merchandise and I scored! Some pop vinyls and a vortex manipulator! Because Osric was going in cosplay today and he was dressed as Peter Pan, I had to get another picture with him!

DSC_0948

Nanayah and I also learned the people of Wolfcon would be attending and giving away free passes, so naturally we found them and we are going to Wolfcon in May!!!

DSC_0741

The Q&A with Marnix the second day was hilarious as was the second Q&A with Osric. Osric also used my Gishwes hat for the raffle he was holding that weekend to win a free dinner with him (too bad we didn’t win) but I did get an epic picture with Osric the second day.

DSC_0084

We bought more merchandise and I even bought my first 3 manga! And according to Tekira I did very well. I bought the first manga from: Blue Exorcist, Vampire Knight and Black Butler. I loved those! (Don’t tell anyone but I found accompanying anime online and already watched Vampire Knight and Black Butler). Tekira is very proud of me.

DSC_0774

I was absolutely dead after two days of Comic Con, but I can’t wait for next year and a new cosplay I have in mind!

That was it for this post. Love you guys!

Lots of love, your own hot cute girly geek, Mendy!

Hot cute girly geek and Tekira in Paris!

Hi my hot cute girly geeks and boy geeks of course.

Sorry for the long absence from writing, as usual, busy. Real life is in the way of my weekly blogging, together with my Etsy shop and work. But I decided a nice update on my latest holiday adventures was a good way to come back to everything.

DSC_0169

And as you can see by the title, I was not alone! Every year my work organizes a trip abroad for everyone who is part of our staff association and this time Paris was on the menu. And because Tekira is one of our interns at work we decided to go together. Yay! Geeky blogger trip to Paris, and boy was it geeky.

I’ll spare you the details of all the touristy stuff we did, it’s Paris and full of touristy stuff you can visit. But we decided to incorporate a bit of geekyness as well. Besides us talking about geeky stuff pretty much 24/7 and the amazing amount of fandom shirts I packed as well as my epic, homemade Tardis bag.

Ok, first stop on our geeky agenda:

DSC_0103

Dernier Bar avant la fin du monde. Or roughly translated: the last bar before the end of the world.

DSC_0107what is it? Well, only the most epic geeky place you’ll find in Paris, 400 m² filled with references to science fiction, fantasy, manga, television series, movies and literature.DSC_0156 A place for all geeks to eat, drink, play games, and generally geek out over everything. If you are a geek in Paris, get your geeky butt down there asap!

DSC_0105

The bar has a well stocked wall filled with games you can freely lend to play with fellow geeks. Everywhere you look it’s geek paradise with popular references to all yourDSC_0108 favourite geek shows, series, comics, movies, like Star Wars, Doctor Who, V for Vendetta and tons of manga and anime stuff I’m not familiar with but had Tekira in a right geeky flailing mode.

DSC_0106

You can eat, although the menu for dining isn’t that great, think more along the lines of snacks, they do have stuff on the menu like triforce chips, dark side cookies, a ‘hello sweetie dessert’ shhh, spoilers (yes I ordered one, and no it didn’t turn magically into a glass of champagne). DSC_0115

DSC_0110And if you love alcohol, the drinks menus is even more spectacular. What about Captain Picard’s Earl Grey (Computer-tea-earl grey-hot), tenth’s health potion (justDSC_0109 brilliant!), the serenity, bad wolf, 42, Lannister, a Tardis, green dragon and many, many more.

The cupcakes come in gaming theme’s, the staff is brilliant and after some hard questioning say they have the best job in the world.

DSC_0152

And I got jumped by a 10th Doctor female cosplayers who geeked-out over my tardis bag in rapid French. After I calmed her down she continued in English and we quickly bonded over cosplay, Tardisses and the Doctor. It was brilliant. Safe to say we ended up there both Friday and Saturday night.

Our second geeky stop was Museé d’Orsay… ok, how can a museum be geeky. Hello, Vincent van Gogh, Doctor Who, epic fangirling anyone?!

The enormous line in front of the museum didn’t hold us back, so we waited like good little fangirls in line and met up with an American family of whovians, again, they spotted my bag. DSC_0122DSC_0123Americans are crazy, but I almost adopted this cute family and it was fun to see that wherever you come from, your dad will always embarrass you in front of strangers. Well done whovian dad.

We got to see some brilliant paintings by Van Gogh and (shhh don’t tell) I was a bit naughty by taking some pictures. Seem familiar???

DSC_0125

And of course we found the only English bookstore in Paris for our little geeky hearts to enjoy, it isn’t Waterstones but WHSmith does have a nice Sherlock selection and I found a lovely Doctor Who mug for my collection.DSC_0087

Although when I went to pay for it, something strange happened and we ran as fast as we could out of there.

DSC_0096DSC_0098

Oh and a visit to Paris wouldn’t be complete without visiting Shakespeare and Company where I finally found a copy of Good Omens, which I have been looking for, for ages!

DSC_0133

We did learn on our last night there was an exhibition about Marvel, but unfortunately running out of time and money we didn’t have time to visit. But if you find yourself in Paris before the 31st of August go check it out: http://artludique.com/marvel2.html

And I did spot some random cool Ninja Turtles posters near the Montmartre.

DSC_0170

And after three days in Paris it was time to go home. We had an epic weekend in Paris and I might return some day, but first London!!!

Love, your own hot cute girly geek Mendy and Geeky sidekick Tekira.

YouTube Sunday (finally!)

Hi my hot cute girly geeks and boy geeks of course. Sigh; finally have the time to do a proper YouTube Sunday again. This last month has been crazy. I had to pick up the workload for a colleague who went on a 4 week holiday and after that I had my own vacation break. But that also meant I was to freaking tired during the week to gather geek vids for you guys. When I encountered one I saved it. But I never posted them. So now, on the last day of my holiday (eugh, I need to start working again tomorrow) I’ll post them all at once.

So now, still in my pyjamas, cause you know, it’s Sunday, I’ll be sorting through about 40 vids I collected. I hope you’ll enjoy them. Some may be a bit old, but nevertheless fun to watch. Enjoy!

Seeing as the movie How to train your dragon 2 is coming out June 2014, here’s something to kill the hiatus for you in between waits. The making of part 1: http://youtu.be/PQMBA4896pU if you go to the geek who posted it, there is more where that came from 😉

I first encountered the song Sail by Awolnation in a fanvid made for Sherlock: http://youtu.be/tderL0tZ2jo and I think this is one of the most awesome fanmade vids with this song; it fits in every way possible. And now I found a Supernatural one as well!: http://youtu.be/IbQEyH9bdlg  I mean, this song, is just perfect if you’re having a crappy day and want to get it out of your system by playing angry music and shouting along with it. It’s one of my favourite songs on my mp3 player.

Ok, this is old news for a lot of Sherlockians and a lot of rumours online as we wait for season 3. But fake scenes??? What?: http://youtu.be/epIch_VCVp8 (no Setlock involved in this vid)

A bit of Sherlock season 3 in this drama trailer by BBC: http://youtu.be/ThHEcmDBXpg when is the wait finally over!

The Little Flavour teaser trailer has finally landed, and when it came out, my social media exploded, it’s short, it’s bloody and I need more: http://youtu.be/7mghu5ELe_c

Neutron creme! I’m talking about Star Trek obviously, this vid is a crappy quality, but Karl Urban explains a bit about is: http://youtu.be/xPdrKDh_olw

Talking about Star trek, here’s the honest trailer: http://youtu.be/6B22Uy7SBe4

So what happens if you cross Harry Potter with Doctor Who? http://youtu.be/3aLBLb8DQO4  another fanvid.

There are countless of version online for the cup song (song by Anna Kendrick in Pitch Perfect the movie), but I really like this one as it’s in Gaelic: http://youtu.be/nFtfk0bZVRM

I’m going to Gent in two weeks to see the Julian Assange movie ‘the Fifth Estate’ here’s Julian’s reaction to Benedict’s accent: http://youtu.be/C-X8dxsuOOw I can’t wait to see this movie! Oh and a bit more Fifth Estate: http://youtu.be/ZTzCpjT2ds8

More Benedict? Yes please: another interview with Benedict: http://youtu.be/VtfOxmOzcec  and one more: http://youtu.be/JeEQ2wbRxHY  oh ok, I’ll give you another one: http://youtu.be/iY9lcIHzREc

Although I haven’t watched Merlin (seriously I tried, several times) I did enjoy this children’s in need vid the cast made: http://youtu.be/5k0DinFR5rw

Winter is coming, but not season 4 of Game of Thrones, we still have to wait for some time. Until then, enjoy this extended version of the intro: http://youtu.be/EyJUx2co12c

Season 8 gagreel Supernatural!!! http://youtu.be/6Xlste6kFmk they are the best! Ladies, hold on to your ovaries for this one.

Artist Promo Blog: Meike Zane, portrait artist

Hi my hot cute girly geeks and boy geeks of course. Because I’m crazy busy at the moment I don’t have any time to do a YouTube Sunday for the next couple of weeks, because I simply don’t have the time to spend searching the internet during the week. So I have something different for you today, and I think it’s even more awesome then my YouTube Sunday!

This is a new subject, and I was thinking about it for some time to do add this to my blog. And when I saw one of my DCC friends on twitter talking about promoting her blog, well, why not help her out. So here it the first artist promo blog, featuring Meike Zane, portrait artist.

Sherlock by Meike Zane

About Meike:

Supernatural by Meike ZaneMeike Zane is a 23 year old portrait artist from the Netherlands. She is currently in between studies, as she just graduated from the International Bachelor Communication and Media at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, and is starting the MA Arts and Heritage: Policy, Management, and Education at Maastricht University in September of this year. She is passionate about art (both her own and others), photography, travelling, music, family, and more.

About Meike’s art:

Meike has four traditional drawing styles she uses most frequently and offers for commissions. These styles are realism, pointillism, ink, and quick sketches. Most of her works Ian Somerhalder by Meike Zaneare on size A4 and A5, but on request will also draw larger pieces.

Meike’s statement:

While I originally started drawing in 2006, I wasn’t nearly as interested in or passionate about it as I am now. I drew some of my favorite bands and athletes, but had no future aspirations concerning my own art or the art world in general. It wasn’t until my father passed away unexpectedly in 2009 that things started to change drastically. His last words were the evening before, to me – right after I had finished a drawing – that he was so proud of me and my artwork. The next morning I realized I wanted to spend most of my time drawing, and have been doing so ever since. I owe my father a lot, including making me see my true potential and encouraging me to follow my dreams.

In my portraits I try to portray the subjects as they are. I strive to not only capture their likeness, but their soul on the paper as well. This is why I often choose to draw portraits of people I admire and respect. People whose work I enjoy, people who have made a difference in my life, people I look up to.

Lea Michele by Meike ZaneWhat I find most important is that others enjoy my art, which is why I offer commissions. Many people want drawings of their loved ones or heroes to grace their walls, and I am honoured that they come to me to create them. The biggest compliments I receive are the ones from people telling me my art has inspired them to pick up a pencil or be creative otherwise themselves. Creativity decorates the world; I see it as necessary to make it a better place to live in. It doesn’t matter whether that creativity is expressed as drawings, pictures, films, music, etc.; I consider it all to be art.

Different kinds of art:

Meike works with different drawing styles, first of all, Realism. A realistic drawing of the subject (and my personal favourite, if I may say so.) Second she uses Pointillism. Which is really awesome, Meike uses small dots to create an amazing image of the person or the commission (baffled by this style). Ink is the third one, using ink and different brushes to create beautiful pieces as well. And then we have sketches, quick sketch portraits done with pencils (Oh I would love to have just a bit of her talent). And mixed media, where Meike uses different styles of drawing techniques into one image, one of the best and most amazing examples is the one she drew of James Rhodes. (Speechless, just speechless.)

James Rhodes by Meike Zane

But that’s not the only thing she makes! If you visit her etsy shop, you’ll see she also makes these beautiful pieces of jewellery, the Tree of Life, with different kinds of gemstones (also available as a custom made order if you wish)

Tree of Life by Meike Zane

So that’s it? Nope, she also makes her art into amazing Resin Necklaces, for you know, if you want to display your fandom throughout daily life.

Ministry of Magic by Meike Zane

What makes it geeky?

What makes it geeky? First of all, Meike is one hot cute girly geek herself! Big hug for that one Meike! Embrace that inner geek and never let go of it! Second of all, all the Loki by Meike Zanefandoms!!! Just a small selection of a few of the fandoms she uses to make beautiful art from:

  • BBC Sherlock
  • Doctor Who
  • Glee
  • Harry Potter
  • BBC Merlin
  • the Vampire Diaries
  • The Avengers
  • Supernatural
  • And many, many more!

Ok, can I marry you now?

My thoughts:

Sherlock sketch by Meike ZaneWow, just one word wow. Spending so much time online I see a lot of art and fan art passing. And although everyone has his or her own style, I do have my own preferences, especially when it comes to realism. Not many artists are capable to capture not only the 2D image of a picture and drawing it on a piece of paper, but in Meike’s case she is able to capture the essence of the person she is drawing, making them seem alive, the emotions they display in that drawing real.

Within the fandoms present, Meike is a rising star; her art is being displayed at Speedy’s cafe. (For the people who don’t know Speedy’s, first of all, shame one you! Second, go watch Sherlock!) Even Benedict Cumberbatch has noticed her thanks to Speedy’s, which was tweeted just a couple of days ago. I mean, how awesome is that!

I wish I had an original Meike Zane at home, but you know how life is, and short of cash 😉 But buying one of her beautiful art pieces is high on my priority list at the moment. (Oh and I do accept gifts, if people are wondering.)

The Eleventh Doctor by Meike Zane

How to buy Meike’s art:

So by now I know you guys are curious and you have seen some examples of her art on this blog (don’t worry, I asked for permission to use it) And I know you all want to buy some of her art. So where can you find it?

YouTube Sunday!!! And Matt Smith leaving Doctor Who.

Hi my lovely hot cute girly geeks and boy geeks of course. Wow, are you fellow whovians as shocked as I am? If you haven’t heard yet, you must have been living under a rock or something. Yesterday evening the news came out that Matt Smith is leaving Doctor Who

Yep you heard it. Matt Smith, the current 11th Doctor (not taking in consideration what part John Hurt may play in the 50th episode) will be leaving Doctor Who during the Christmas episode at the end of this year.

I think I was one of the first of my friends who found out yesterday evening. The news was leaking a bit early. They planned on releasing the news around midnight, but it was online around 10 pm last night. And the internet exploded. Facebook, twitter, and I can only imagine how tumblr must have looked. I didn’t have access to TV or a computer last night and depended on others feeding me snippets of news. Oh how I love my fellow fandom friends, keeping me updated.

So what are your feelings about this whole ordeal? I love Matt as the Doctor, he did some brilliant episodes, played the role exceptionally well, but he isn’t my Doctor. That is and forever will be David Tennant.  Maybe that was the reason I wasn’t freaking out as much I thought I would. I mean, I had my proper Doctor moment last night, when I read my twitter feed. I think I exclaimed ‘what’? About six times. And my friend was a bit worried about me, to say the least.

I talked about Matt Smith with my good friend Theta a couple of days ago. We wondered how long he would be playing the role. The news was that Matt signed for season 8, and now he’s leaving. I will miss him as the Doctor, but I’m also anxious to see who will be next in line. I trust the good people of Doctor Who to pick a brilliant actor for this role. And like everyone I have my preferences.

Can we have David Tennant back? He is back for the 50th, so he can continue as the Doctor… I know, this is never ever gonna happen, but a girl can hope.

The second name I would like to drop is Ben Whishaw. He is a young actor, upcoming star, just won a Bafta and would be perfect for the new Doctor.

And people, please don’t mention Benedict as the new Doctor. He already declines the role ones, he is far too busy with other stuff and I don’t think he would be a good Doctor. Not that he’s not qualified to play the role. But it just feels wrong.

Check out this link, where Blogtor Who has a list of his own: http://blogtorwho.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/12-actors-for-12th-doctor.html

I will keep you guys updated with news, if you want instant news you should follow my twitter account, otherwise, just subscribe here.

For now, we continue with a couple of vids.

Don’t know if you have seen it already, but this is an awesome vid. Some cheerleaders decided to make a video clip from the song, Call me maybe, and some US military guys, decided to remake theirs. Watch: http://youtu.be/d446beUSUYo

Some pranking behind the scenes of shooting Harry Potter: http://youtu.be/dU5ejL8KWo0

Who hasn’t seen the Fresh Prince of Bell Air, when they grew up? Or at some point during their life. Turns out, Will Smith and his son where guests on the Graham Norton show, and boy do they have a surprise! Watch the whole vid and prepare for rolling of the couch from laughter. http://youtu.be/ZwS14TiO7Pk

One of my fellow Dutch Supernatural friends is currently living in London and as part of her graduation project she made this awesome vid about cycling in London, we Dutchies just love to cycle. Watch it and share it please!: http://youtu.be/J4JBanHlu1g

And I end this small YouTube vid list with the news item of Matt Smith leaving Doctor Who as seen on BBC news yesterday evening. For the peeps, who just like me, didn’t have any access to a TV at that time.

Lots of love, from your own hot cute girly geek, Mendy.

Hot Cute Girly Geek museum tour: the London Film Museum

Hi my hot cute girly and boy geeks of course, as you could have read in my last post, I’m still busy. I’m hoping that March will bring some peace and quiet in my life, but until then. If I have the time, I’ll write a couple of posts and let them be posted on my blog spread out throughout the week. I’m still catching up with older posts and as promised I would do a post about the film museum I went to last year.

  • Name: London Film Museum
  • Place: London, UK.
  • Location: South Bank.
  • Website: http://www.londonfilmmuseum.com/south-bank/
  • Date of visit: 26th of September, 2012
  • Permanent collection: everything to do with movies
  • Current exhibition: Charlie Chaplin
  • Price: £13.50

So I went to the London film museum because when I was in London last year I decided to do a Doctor Who related tour of my own. I read online they had Daleks and a TARDIS on display and that was the main reason for me to go. I didn’t expect much of the museum itself and I was really shocked about the entrance fee they asked. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The whole museum is one big geekfest!  I snapped a lot of photos and had to contain my inner geeky squees a lot!

This location of the London film museum is located on the first floor of the Country Hall, next to the London eye. There is also a location at Covent Gardens. But the main one is on South Bank.

Upon entering they had the original Flash Gordon script and a lot of set photographs at display. Cue inner geeky squeak. I love that movie as well as the brilliant music by Queen.

The film museum has different rooms with themes on display. Like the horror movie room, where you can see stuff from Hellraiser, some creepy heads, a monkey used in 28 days later (I also love zombie movies!)28 Days Later 01

Or what to think of a Harry Potter room, with lots of goodies used in the original movies. Seeing I can’t post all the photos I took, here are the most awesome three: The Tri-Wizard cup, golden egg and Ron’s broken wand with letter from his mum. Or what to think of the brooms and books they used for studying. And what about clothes they used in the movie.HP outfits 02

Seeing as my latest fascination, or rather addiction to Sherlock, they also have a Sherlock room. Unfortunately not based on the new BBC series, but still.

And how about some Star Wars goodies: Ewok fur, lightsaber, Han Solo.Star Wars 10

They also had some pretty amazing outfits from different movies: The mummy returns. Or what to think of the Chronicles of Riddick, freaking awesome!!! And not to forget, Batman begins.Batman Begins 01

Oh and they had one of the aliens from Alien, as well as the facehuggers.

And look! Even some drawings of Sarah Michelle Gellar in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I swear, whenever you turn the corner in this museum, you are surprised with some more geeky goodies!

Or the shirt Keanu Reeves was wearing in Constantine.

And what to think of the shirt Simon Pegg, uber geek (I bow down to your geekyness sir) he used in Shaun of the Dead.

And a knife Hugo Weaving used in the Matrix.

Oh and look, a Terminators head and shirt from Terminator 2.

How about some Total Recall money (used in the original movie, not that terrible remake!)

And a childhood geeky thing: the sub from thunderbirds! I really need to stop looking at my own pictures, this is getting ridiculous, I’m actually squeeing on the couch again!

I also hope you liked Highlander, here’s a costume used in the movie.

Are there any Superman fans out there? Costume used in Superman Returns.

And let me end with the main reason I went to the museum in the first place. Daleks and a TARDIS!

Sorry about the picture spamming, but I really loved this museum. It’s worth every penny and you should visit it, if you have the chance!

Until next time. Love, your own hot cute girly geek, Mendy.
