A very Geeky Valentine 2014!

Hi my hot cute girly geeks and boy geeks of course. My fellow bloggers worked very hard to get you some awesome gifts for Christmas 2013, and I screwed up by a serious lack of time. So I guess I owed them and you faithful readers of course something special for Valentine’s Day this year.

Without further ado, some lovely gifts for that geeky someone in your life, a collaboration post done by Theta, Tekira and myself!

Doctor Who / Torchwood:

Theta: On the visual side of things, I have a bumper bundle of DVDs and Blu-Rays timed for release around December last year to get your hands on.  Firstly, and the most costly, is this boxset of Series 1-7 on Blu Ray.  It includes the Specials along with Series 5,6 and 7 on Blu Ray, but it also includes Series 1-4 which have previously been unreleased in this format.

Theta: Shortly after the November transmission, there will be a release of two programmes which mark the fiftieth anniversary.  The first of these is the docu-drama “An Adventure In Space And Time” written by Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss and starring David Bradley (Argus Filch in the “Harry Potter” franchise and Solomon The Trader in the Doctor Who episode “Dinosaurs On A Spaceship”) in the role of the actor who portrayed the First Doctor, William Hartnell.

Theta: The other item to mark the fiftieth anniversary is the episode that we’re all waiting for, “The Day Of The Doctor”, starring Matt Smith, David Tennant, Jenna Coleman, Billie Piper and John Hurt.

Theta: The final DVD is the first of two special releases marking the recent recovery of lost episodes in Nigeria.  “The Enemy Of The World” features the Second Doctor, portrayed by Patrick Troughton, in adventure where he faces up to a ruthless dictator, Salamander, also portrayed by Troughton.

Theta: The fiftieth anniversary is being marked by Big Finish Productions, who have been producing Doctor Who audio adventures since 1999, with “The Light At The End”, a story that stars Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann in their respective incarnations of the Doctor who have to face off against The Master, portrayed by Geoffrey Beevers, reprising his role from the 1981 story “The Keeper of Traken”. The story can be bought in three formats – Standard Edition, Collector’s Edition and a Limited Vinyl Edition.

Theta: Finally, some clothing and I’m going to use it as a shout out for a Whovian friend who produce t-shirts as part of her ongoing artwork projects. Sami produces t-shirts as part of her “Time and Space and Cute” range through Red Bubble and the name pretty much sums up the shirts as she has designed a series of shirts which portrays various Doctors, companions and villains in cute designs.  Suitable for both girly and boy geeks.

Mendy: Ok, first of all, I’m going to use my whovian gift ideas as a shameless self-promotion for my recently opened Etsy store. How about a nice and cute cuddly plush Adipose toy? They have different accessories; you can add bowties and fezzes if you like.

Mendy: and if that’s not to your liking, how about a warm, hand knitted Doctor Who season 18 hat. The hat is based on the famous red, orange and purple scarf the fourth Doctor wears oh and the scarf itself is not for sale, at least not made by me. It takes me about 2 months to knit such a long scarf and you can’t afford my prices I would ask 😉

Mendy: Talking about scarves, you can actually buy them from someone else, check out the Doctor Who scarves by Lovarzi. They have the multicoloured scarf, the red, orange and purple one. Even a lovely Dalek scarf, as far as Daleks can been seen as lovely.

Mendy: one thing I have my eye on, and if there isn’t a lovely geek willing to buy me these, I’m going to buy them in September myself, are the range of new  Doctor Who earrings from forbidden planet! They have the 10th and 11th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver, the Tardis, Cybermen and Daleks. I want them all!! And the best thing, they are affordable!

Mendy: although not really romantic, I’m gonna give another shout out to the geeks from Direct Blinds for their amazing Tardis Blind. Check my blogpost for details and remember they have a promotion at the moment for 33% off!

Mendy: If you don’t already have it in your collection, I recommend, as a Torchwood fan, to buy this book: the Torchwood Archives. It’s amazingly detailed and a must have for every Torchwood fan.  And just to add another book, Torchwood Exodus code, written by John and Carole E. Barrowman (his sister) and it picks up after the Torchwood TV series! Again, you must read this!

Sherlock

Mendy: as always, there isn’t a lot of Sherlock merchandise out there. After we ended season 3 the BBC picked up on some items. If your geek doesn’t have it yet, buy him/her Sherlock season 3 on DVD (I don’t have it yet, hint hint!)

Mendy: as I said, the BBC has released some amazing items (don’t have them either!) To enjoy your cuppa after running around London with a certain Detective, the Sherlock mug. Or what if he ruined another one of your shirts by doing experiments. Sherlock T-shirt set based on season 3. Including an ‘I don’t shave for Sherlock’ and ‘I don’t understand, I still don’t understand.’ They come in different sizes and in men and women shirts!

Mendy: Something the BBC shop doesn’t have, but I do, another shameless self-promotion. The one and only Sherlock deduction game Chullo hat. Hand knitted, warm and ideal for a deduction game with annoying siblings or loving geeky partners.

Mendy: I bought some amazing and lovely Sherlock earrings from Etsy last year and I wear them almost every day! Check out Pia’s etsy shop and don’t be afraid to ask her if she has a new batch ready!

Mendy: One of my dear DCC friends Meike as her own etsy shop as well and I have 3 of her hand drawn Sherlock pictures on my wall. She is an amazing artist and I urge you to buy something from her!

Mendy: last item on the Sherlock list, made by ConsultingFangeeks, a 221B messenger bag available on etsy!

Gaming:

Tekira: You can never go wrong with figures! They exist in all price categories, and they are made for Practically each manga, anime, or game. Just make sure the other person does not already own the one you intend to buy. They are quite easy to acquire. I always get mine from amazon.co.uk or achonia.com. You can also buy them on anime and/or game conventions

Tekira: On Etsy, you can find jewelry of every fandom you can imagine. I’m especially fond of Zelda jewelry. Last Christmas, my boyfriend made me very happy with this Heart Piece necklace from the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, available on www.thepixelsmithy.com

Tekira: (Limited Edition) Guide books Often not so limited as you might think, but awesome nonetheless. For a few pounds less you can get the ‘regular’ version, but that just means a less awesome cover in most of the cases. You can get them in game stores and on amazon (the picture shows Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: Legendary Edition (Prima Official Game Guides), available on amazon.co.uk).

Tekira: Plushies are awesome. There is not much else I can tell about them. Buy them on amazon, game stores, or achonia.com.

Star Trek

Theta / Mendy: I think that everyone will agree that the highlight of Star Trek Into Darkness was Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance as Khan… I mean, John Harrison.  Well, IDW has created an official tie-in mini-series of comics not surprisingly titled “Star Trek: Khan” which tells the character’s back-story.  Oh and don’t forget to buy the DVD ‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’ if your geek doesn’t have it already!

Game of Thrones

Theta: Okay, I admit it.  I’m still not into this whole Game Of Thrones thing but as “Winter Is Coming” (see that, I’ve made a pun), I thought that this box set of books would be a nice item to put on any Game of Thrones or fantasy fan’s wish list.

Mendy: People like their eggs all sorts of ways. In an omelette. Scrambled. Fried. Poached. Boiled. And then there’s Daenerys. She likes hers roasted in a funeral pyre. Illyrio’s gift to Daenerys upon her wedding to Khal Drogo, these eggs are now yours to take home. No, really. We asked Jorah Mormont. He’s cool with it. Note: Do not place these in your fireplace. They will not hatch dragons. And if they do, it’s not our fault. These ‘Game of Thrones plush Dragon Eggs’ are a must have for any Khaleesi! If you can’t find the real deal of course!

Mendy: Speaking of eggs, to stay in the same theme here. Buy your lovely geek a ‘Game of Thrones Dragon Egg Canister’ to keep hidden treasures, a pre-hatched dragons (capacity: 1) or home bakes cookies safe.

The Hobbit/The Lord Of The Rings

Theta: For Tolkien related items, it’d be so easy to go with an item from the new film “The Desolation Of Smaug”, but I’m going to pick two which are more generally “Hobbit” based Firstly ladies, for that frustrated LARPer in your life, this Deluxe role play Dwarven battle axe should hit (see, another pun) the spot.

Theta: Secondly, I’m going to suggest a big part in my TV childhood with this CD reading of The Hobbit from the BBC television children’s series “Jackanory”.  The Hobbit was selected to commemorate the 3000th episode of the programme and is read by Maurice Denham, Jan Francis, David Wood and (now how’s this for geeky credentials) Bernard Cribbins.

Mendy: To unlock the heart of your geeky love, use this lovely ‘Thorin Oakenshield Key’ and a slight warning, only accessible on Durins day!

Mendy: Or something to cuddle with, a cuddly and ‘invisible Bilbo’ I wonder if Amanda Abbington has one in her collection. I’d say you buy a bell and put it around his neck, those damn invisible burglars these days!

Mendy: and last but not least, of course Smaug deserves some love. All those gold coins and jewels don’t warm that big heart of his. I have yet to find a good plush Smaug, but this cute ‘Flygdrake’ from IKEA makes a good representative!

Vampires:

Mendy: well, this is my area! I freaking love vampires! And I do mean the monsters, not the sparkly kind. First some advice from last year, ‘Anita Blake’ Laurell K. Hamilton has everything on her website, check it out!

Mendy: A tat more expensive, but for the hunter geeks amongst ourselves, as in Buffy the vampire slayer, Think Geek provides us with this amazing ‘Vampire Hunter Kit’ everything a slayer needs these days!

Mendy: a ring for your loved one! The reason I started wearing this particular ring was my love for the show. ‘Claddagh Ring’ you can get one at your jewellery store, but Amazon ships.

Theta: I thought that I’d select a vampire film, or should I say films, which uses the winter atmosphere of snow and the like are “Let Me In” or “Let The Right One In”.  Now, I have to admit that I’ve only seen the Hammer version that was released in 2010, but I thought that it was a hauntingly beautiful film.

Werewolves:

Theta: Okay, when you think of werewolf franchises, you’re probably thinking of the current “Teen Wolf” television series.  Well, as I had already exhausted my number one pick of “Being Human”, I decided to go back to my cinematic teenage years and pick the original “Teen Wolf” film starring Michael J. Fox.  He manages to craft a character who is funny, the underdog (number three on the pun-o-metre), and learns a lesson to be true to yourself, rather than just being popular.  A brilliant film.

Mendy: Although the series Beauty and the Beast doesn’t really fall under the category werewolves, he does look like one, check out the ‘Beauty and the Beast webshop’ for all cool stuff.

Mendy: What to do if you meet a real werewolf? Thank god your geeky love provided you with this silver bullet to protect you. (Ps not real ammo, just for decoration only!)

Mendy: and I though you Teen Wolf fans out there love these ‘Teen Wolf Phone Cases’ just so you know (go Stilinski)

Comic Books and Movie adaptations

Theta: Well, it has been a year for comic book adaptations in the movies, but I’m going to focus on two.  The first is “Man of Steel” directed by Zack Snyder.  Granted, this film has polarised opinion, but I really enjoyed it with the treatment of the source material with suitable gravitas and Henry Cavill making for a suitable portrayal of Clark/Kal-El/Superman facing off against Michael Shannon’s Zod.  Think of it as “Superman: Year One”.

Theta: The second, and my favourite adaptation of this year is “Kick-Ass 2”.  Rude, crude and exceedingly violent, this film sees Kick-Ass, portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, inspiring a whole host of superheroes including Colonel Stars & Stripes, portrayed by Jim Carrey, whilst having to battle against the former fake super-hero Red Mist (I’m not going to say his character name on this site), portrayed by Christopher Mintz-Plasse, whilst fellow super-hero Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) struggles to find a place in the world after the death of her mentor, Big Daddy.

Mendy: wanna be part of the good guys? Show you are a secret / not so secret agent? Wear an ‘agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ t-shirt and the whole world knows. Maybe not so smart to wear it in public, you might never know what kind of baddie you may encounter.

Books:

Theta: Rather than putting a book related item on this list, I’m going to plug a series of books based on the virtue that I really enjoyed the first book.  The “Geekhood” series of books by Andy Robb follows the character of Archie who seeks to build a relationship with classmate Sarah in the face of a hostile reaction from his fellow geeks and intimidation from a bully.  The first book was a fast read that I could relate to and I really want to get hold of the second novel.

Mendy: I do love books and bookish gifts, and again I’m dusting of a gift idea I gave you last year. I love all the bookish gifts this site provides. Check ‘the Literary Gift Company’ for the ideal geek Valentines gift for your lovely bookworm.

That’s it:

That’s it my lovely geeks, I hope you liked this epic post and you’ll be able to find some nice geeky gifts for that special geek in your life, and it’s safe to say we all accept one of these gifts as a thank you 😉

Love, your geeks, Tekira, Theta and Mendy.

A geeky valentine’s day. Gift ideas for your geeky man or woman

Hi my hot cute girly and boy geeks. As you all know Valentine’s Day is coming up. You have must seen those cards and sweets in the shops already.

I, for one, don’t like Valentine’s Day. It’s corny and not in a good way. But maybe some of my fellow readers do love it. So that’s why you are getting this lovely post. My fellow blogger Theta and I teamed up for this and decided on 10 popular fandoms at the moments and gifts that go with those fandoms. I hope this will narrow it down for you to pick that special gift for your fellow and lovely geek.

M:  stands for male gift ideas picked by Theta

F:  stands for female gift ideas picked by me

  • Game of Thrones
    • M:  Unfortunately, I’m not too well up on the Game of Thrones fandom, so I can really only recommend the DVDs and Blu-Rays to be honest – especially as Season 2 is due out on 4 March in the UK.
    • M:  So if you want to catch up, how about the Game of Thrones Season 1 & 2 box set. Okay, it’s bit pricey, but it’s a “win win”. The guy in your life gets the box set of his favourite fandom, whilst you can bask in the handsomeness that is Sean Bean. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Game-Thrones-Season-Complete-Blu-ray/dp/B007V3OY0G/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1358671548&sr=8-11
    • F:  Winter is coming, or already here based on the snow. And now you can smell the part, yes
you heard me right, smell. Think geek has this awesome Fire and Blood Perfume, a scent worthy of the blood of the dragon, or your own Khalesi: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ee0d/?srp=21ee0d_game_of_thrones_perfume
  • The Hobbit / Lord of the Rings
    • M:  Remember in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” when Bilbo was told that his Elven sword “Sting” was nothing more than a letter opener? Well, giftwa94046_jpg_size-285_maxheight-285_square-truere company The Noble Collection has taken that literally with the “Sting” letter opener which is available at Forbidden Planet and other good stockists. http://forbiddenplanet.com/94046-the-hobbit-letter-opener-sting/
    • M:  And, if the love of your life is a bit of completist, you could always look at getting him the letter opener set which includes “Sting”, “Glamdring” and “Orcrist”. (Just watch out for the price tag). http://forbiddenplanet.com/94055-the-hobbit-letter-opener-set/
    • F:  We can start with the obvious jewellery that was hot like 10 years ago when Lord of the Rings made its entrance to the screens, thinks like the Evenstar necklace, but that is so redundant. Why not get your lovely geeky lady one of these mini plush toys she can cuddle up to for night when you don’t spend together: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ee25/?srp=6
    • F:  Or these beautiful the one ring earrings to put on your favourite hobbit/elf/dwarf lady. Now only hope she won’t disappear while wearing these: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/f265/?srp=37f265_hobbit_one_ring_earrings
  • Sherlock
    • M:  I am already going to assume that the chaps will already have both series on either DVD or, if you are male and follow that trait of having the latest technological gizmos, Blu Ray or downloaded it on Love Film or Netflix. Therefore, I have chosen the book “Sherlock: The Casebook”.

51OK4LK4ucL__BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU02_This isn’t just a companion book that accompanies the series. It explains the cultural impact of the Sherlock Holmes mythos, has an episode-by-episode breakdown of series one and two – along with the influences from the original Conan Doyle stories and where they figure in the episodes, and for the fans who have an eye on fan fiction (Nooooooo, not that kind of fan fiction), there’s an insight into the world of Sherlock from the point of view of Sherlock and John Watson themselves. Plus there’s the usual array of photos that are the fixture and fittings of a “making of” book. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sherlock-Casebook-Guy-Adams/dp/1849904251/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1358664662&sr=1-22508726_jpeg_size-285_maxheight-285_square-true

    • F:  If your geeky girl likes board games, check out this special edition for Cluedo, you and your lady can play the parts in being Holmes and Watson and solving crimes: http://forbiddenplanet.com/92556-cluedo-sherlock-edition/
    • F:  As my lovely fellow blogger won’t touch the subject of that kind of fan fiction, I however will. You know what I mean. It is too bad there isn’t much Sherlock merchandise out there but if you want something special, you can always browse the Devian Art site. A lot of artists do commission work and you can order the most beautiful art pieces to give to your geeky girl, just go to the site: http://www.deviantart.com/ and search for Sherlock or Johnlock and contact the artist for your own commissioned work.
  • Vampires
    • M:  This one I am going to cheat a little by combining this and the next category, whilst throwing in a ghost for good measure.

511DVPj61tL__SL500_AA300_“Being Human” is a bit of a cult phenomenon in the UK. Whilst it isn’t on any of the mainstream BBC channels, it continues to get a loyal viewership on BBC3.

For those, who don’t know, “Being Human” revolves around a group of housemates – difference is, these housemates are a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost. To make it extra geeky, you get quite a few cast members who have appeared in other genre productions most notably Russell Tovey (“Doctor Who” and “Sherlock”), Lenora Critchlow (“Doctor Who”), Aidan Turner (“The Hobbit”) and Sinead Keenan (“Doctor Who”) – plus it’s created by Toby Whithouse who has scripted a few episodes of “Doctor Who”. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Being-Human-Blu-ray-Region-Free/dp/B007N6N6VY/ref=sr_1_5?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1358693737&sr=1-5

  • Comics and movie adaptations
    • M:  Comic Book adaptations in the movies have been a bit hit and miss – for every “Avengers” you’ll get a “Punisher” (and I mean the Dolph Lundgren version from the 80’s… shudder). But, if you ask who is the geek of the superhero world, only one name comes to mind and that is ol’ web-head himself, Spider-man.

61XAzAp6nwL__SL500_AA300_Now, whilst I liked Tobey Maguire’s interpretation of the role, I prefer the latest reboot “The Amazing Spider-Man” starring Andrew Garfield (“The Social Network”, “Never Let Me Go” and the “Doctor Who” two-parter from Season Three, “Daleks In Manhattan” and “Evolution Of The Daleks”). He is who I imagined Peter Parker to be – a loner, intelligent, awkward around the girls, loves his aunt and uncle – and he also manages to pull off the “Spider-man” part of his persona – smart mouth, brave and the everyman of the Marvel Universe.

And if that’s not enough, you get a great supporting cast including Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Sally Field, Martin Sheen and Denis Leary and brilliant direction by Marc Webb (“500 Days of Summer”)

Plus, if you’re fella is a real film geek like myself, there are loads of extras to get his teeth into including a Second Screen App for the iPad or Sony Tablet which gives more information on the film. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElA7xxJU91s

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Amazing-Spider-Man-Blu-ray-Copy-Region/dp/B005OIYCN4/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1358674089&sr=1-1

  • Books:
    • M:  Okay, I’m going to go with a film adaptation of a book that seems to be catching a lot of interest at present, especially due to the fact that it’s being released near Valentine’s Day itself (dependent on where you live) and that’s “Warm Bodies”. I’ve already read the novel written by Isaac Marion and the film is being billed as a zom-rom-com.

Basically, it’s the story of a zombie who is known as “R”, portrayed by Nicholas Hoult from “Skins”, “X-Men: First Class” and “About A Boy”, who is a bit of an unusual type – even for the undead. During a hunt, he meets a living girl by the name of Julie, portrayed by Teresa Palmer from “I Am Number Four”, “Bedtime Stories” and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”, and through a series of circumstances he starts developing emotions for her and starts getting in touch with his human side again.

I loved the book and I am really looking forward to the film, especially as it’s directed and scripted by Jonathan Levine who directed “50/50” which was one of my favourite films of 2011.

STK520312_jpg_size-285_maxheight-285_square-trueAnyway, IDW comics are releasing a four part prequel called “Star Trek: Countdown To Darkness” written by Robert Orci, who is one of the script writers on the 2009 “Star Trek” film and the forthcoming “Star Trek Into Darkness”, and Mike Johnson, who is responsible for the ongoing “Star Trek” series for IDW. http://forbiddenplanet.com/94623-star-trek-countdown-to-darkness-1/

These Blu Rays include not only extended cuts, in some instances of the feature films, but also special features which are more in depth than the standard releases. Currently, films 1-6 have a release in the format in the UK with films 7 and 8 recently being released in the US as a double pack. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_il_ti_dvd?rh=n%3A283926%2Ck%3Aharry+potter+ultimate+edition%2Cp_n_binding_browse-bin%3A383380011&bbn=283926&keywords=harry+potter+ultimate+edition&ie=UTF8&qid=1358708075&lo=dvd

I hope you loved the ideas in this massive post. I know Theta and I had loads of fun browsing the net to find you the perfect gift ideas for Valentine’s Day.

Love, from both Theta and your hot cute girly geek, Mendy.

Divine Misdemeanors by Laurell K. Hamilton, a book review

Hi hot cute girly (and boy) geeks of mine.

Here is another book review with spoilers, this time, divide misdemeanors by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Merry gave up the throne to the Unseelie court in order to save Frosts life and returning with her men and woman back to L.A. she also picks up her job as a detective again. Although not all her men are happy about it. She gets called in by the police in a case about demi-fey murders.

The demi-fey are brutally murders and arranged after a picture in a children’s story book. And Merry is called in because of her knowledge of the fey and who could have done it. Merry decides to warn the other demi-fey about the murders and in doing so they discover a witness to these murders. They start to question her. But the fairy godmother gets wind of this and swoops in to the rescue of bittersweet, the witness.

And then the press finds out she is at the crime scene and follows her, which doesn’t end well for the press. Bittersweet fleets from the police too terrified for anything.

Her men get her finally back home after a long day, where it doesn’t end. She has to deal with Barinthus, former god of the sea. Who isn’t happy that the others are getting back there powers and he isn’t. He is like a big spoiled kid, who doesn’t get a piece of candy from mommy.

Another murder takes place and ones again Merry is called in, although the police would rather not do this, afraid the press again stalks her to the murder scene. This murder is more gruesome then the previous one and Merry finds is hard to stay positive. Being pregnant, these murder scenes, the murder attempts on her and her men, trying to keep everybody happy in her life.

She finally decides to try and please herself instead of everyone around her. And after a third murder they finally find out who did it. But instead of turning the suspects in, Merry gathers her guards and goes after them themselves. Luckily everybody survives and all ends sort of well.

I liked this book better than the previous Merry Gentry novel, but still. It’s hard to keep taps on all the characters, there are so many of them right now. Merry’s men, the female body guards, the staff of the detective agency, the demi-fey and all others I forgot to mention. See, I can’t even remember them all.

I like the fact that Merry is again a detective and there are no crown plotting schemes in this one. Also the sex scenes are awesome as always 😉

Which leaves me rating this book, I give it a 7.5 out of 10. And I’m really looking forward to Merry Gentry nr. 9!

Love, your hot cute girly geek.

Swallowing Darkness by Laurell K. Hamilton, a book review

Hi hot cute girly (and boy) geeks of mine. Here is my review of Swallowing Darkness, the 7th Merry Gentry book by Laurell K. Hamilton and it contains spoilers as always!

Swallowing Darkness picks of after we left Merry and her lovers. She is pregnant with twins and the fathers are 6 of her lovers!!! How can that be? Well it’s faerie, remember? Apparently this can happen. But this also means that Tarantis, high king of the Seelie court and her uncle isn’t the father of the children and yes he did rape her.

The Seelie court tries everything in their power to get Merry to be their Queen, but she doesn’t trust them. Well I wouldn’t either. If it’s too good to be true, it usually is!

Merry is recovering in the hospital after the rape of her uncle when her grandmother visits and then things go wrong, again. Her brownie grandmother, who raised her as being her real mother, is under a spell from her other granddaughter. This turns her into evil brownie mode and eventually has to be killed to protect everyone. Merry calls on the wild hunt to avenge her and kill her niece who is responsible for her grandmothers dead.

When they return to fearie with the wild hunt they are ambushed by other sidhe, who try to kill Mistral, one of her baby daddies. (I know, so many men, so very confusing.) Sholto and Merry eventually retreat in Sholto’s (baby daddy) kingdom, where they try to heal Mistral and in between also pick up Doyle, her Darkness (another baby daddy) who was dying in the hospital. Sholto and Merry are crowned king and queen of the Sluagh, so Sholto wants Merry to be monogamous, yeah right! She puts him in his place on that particular point!

Merry decides to go back to L.A. because she is tired of all the people plotting against her and her men, and trying to kill her. But because the Seelie court is waiting outside of the Sluagh home, she calls in a favor of the U.S. military to help her escape. And it almost works.

The Seelie retreat and let her go, but Cel is waiting for her and her men and tries to kill her. Needles to say they get in a big fight and eventually she kills Cel. Finally! Evil little twisted monster! And Merry and Doyle are crowned king and queen of the Unseelie court by the goddess. But they give it up to save the life of Frost and finally they return to L.A.

Did I like this book, yes I liked it, but in my opinion it’s not the best one of the series, because there is so much happening. I feel like it’s a rollercoaster throughout fearie.  We meet all the men, visit all the courts and it is in my opinion too much for the one book. The other books are more about the background information and this one feels like. Everything needs to be told in as less pages as possible. On the other hand, it explains, a lot. So it’s definitely a must read, but I will rate it no more than a 6.5 out of 10.

Till next time, my hot cute girly (and boy) geeks!

A Lick of Frost by Laurell K. Hamilton, a book review

Hi hot cute girly (and guy) geeks of mine

Spoiler alert!!!

A lick of Frost, the 6th book in the Merry Gentry series and what a good read it is indeed. The last book ended with the wild hunt being released and Merry and her guards running back to L.A. Taking with her as much guards as she could, the ones who where willing to go freely into exile with her from fearie. And this book picks up at a lawsuit. Her own uncle, King Tarantis, High king of the Seelie court pressed charges on 3 of her man, accusing them of raping a noble woman of his own court, and then things go wrong, very very wrong.

Tarantis tries to persuade Merry in to coming to him, apparently he wishes to bed her!!! His own niece!!! To get her pregnant and rule over all of fearie by all means necessary. Thankfully his attempt is stopped in time. Only her own Darkness and Abe are badly hurt and rushed to the hospital. But Merry had other issues to address. The promises to help the half sidhe/half goblin twins Ash and Holly getting there sidhe side powers. Before she gets the chance the red-caps interfere and the Goddess interferes, creating the home in L.A. where Merry and her men (sounds like a cheesy Disney movie) live, into fearie. Only this time Merry has to pay a price for so much power. The price of her dear Killing Frost.

She finds out she is pregnant and at last true heir to the Unseelie throne, but everything is to much. In order to clear her head, she leaves her men behind and is then kidnapped by her uncle who takes her away to the Seelie court, where she wakes up, naked in his bed, with a concussion. What happened en will she escape to see her beloved men???

Although I think this is one of the most disturbing books in the serie, because of her Uncle wants to have sex with Merry, this is also a book where much happens in a short time.

We learn that Tarantis can lie, even though the sidhe aren’t supposed to be able to lie. Merry finally gets pregnant and she doesn’t have to choose between her favorite men. We learn more about the back-ground story of Frost and that Doyle, her Darkness is becoming more and more human in his emotions and love for Merry. I love Doyle. Of all of Merry’s men I love him the most.

Each of her men has something special, but from the first book, where Doyle saves her and tries to heal her wounds, in the most sexy way possible. And the other books where you find out he loves her more, but also has the best interest in her. And he is willing to step aside so Merry can be Queen instead of following his own heart and being selfish, sigh, true romance.

All I can say this is a must read, but so are all Laurell’s books. I rate this one 7.5 out of 10. I will continue reading the rest of them and posting reviews about them. I know, my job sucks, hihi.

I hope you will love this one as much as I did, for the ones who read them, let me know what you think!

Mistral’s Kiss by Laurell K. Hamilton, a book review.

Hi hot cute girly geeks of mine,

Lately I have a lot of free time on my hands and that means I can read a lot. Here is a book review of one of my favorite authors Laurell. K. Hamilton, Mistral’s Kiss. The fifth book in the Merry Gentry series.

Mistral’s Kiss by Laurell K. Hamilton is one of my favorite books from the Merry Gentry series. This is only the second time I’m reading it, but still. Merry finds herself in the middle of a lot of political drama. Her cousin is still imprisoned and she is back in fairy. But there are a couple of assassin attempts on her, before she enters fairy. Her favorite men are doing anything they can to protect her, but things get complicated as a lot of people from the Unseelie court don’t want her as their new queen for fear of becoming mortal. And to top things off. The God and Goddess take a personal interest in her, in attempt to restore fairy as it ones was.

I love this book so much because she finally admits her feelings she has towards Doyle, the queens darkness and my favorite character of all her men. The sex is hot and steamy, like all Laurell’s books. She has such imagination and getting it spot on, on paper. The men are beautiful as always. Wish you had those in real life. A girl can only hope.

This is the fifth book in the Merry Gentry series and I will see if I can manage to do a review on the previous four, but this is a must read, as all Laurell K. Hamiltons books are. The Merry Gentry serie and the Anita Blake serie!!!

You can now also find me on goodreads!!!

Laurell K. Hamilton

Hi hot cute and girly geeks of mine.

Now I will talk about one of my favorite authors. Laurell K. Hamilton. She writes kickass books about vampires, werewolves, shape shifters, zombies, fairies and other supernatural creepy crawlers.

She has two different series. The Anita Blake vampire hunter series and the Merry Gentry series.

The Anita Blakes are about Anita Blake,  a necromancer, raising zombies for a living. But also known as the vampire executioner for here home state. Called in when things go wrong by the police. And a federal marshal above that. Don’t think this is enough? It’s not. She also dates the master of the City, Jean Claude, a vampire. But wait. We are still not there. Jean Claude isn’t the only one she dates, she has a whole datebook full of supernatural sweeties, thanks to an “accident.” But I won’t be adding spoilers. Save to say the books are the so called “adult” books. And all the men look yummy! I’m not complaining at all.

And the Merry Gentry’s are about Meredith Gentry, first fairy princess born on American soil. She’s runner up to be queen, the only thing she needs to do is get pregnant.  And she has quite the number of men around her who are trying with her and trying to get that crown. Also, there is a lot of Irish myth in these books, which I like, a lot. And again with the men. Damn!

And why should you be reading these? There funny, about vampires, hot men with long hair, and they give you a lot to fantasize about at night, if you know what I mean.

Try them, read them, and let me know what you think!
