About Theta

Hi out there to all my wonderful fellow geeks who have shown such good taste, or a general curiosity, as to read this post.
I go under the tag name “Theta Sigma”, no need to guess where that reference comes from, and I’ve been blogging for just under two years.  I first got into blogging because I needed a focus for resurrecting my reading habit, alongside another two of my passions, cinema and theatre.
I’m 41 years old and I come from the UK, Lancashire to be more precise.  I got to know Mendy through Goodreads and Twitter, but we only really started chatting after I wrote a review for a theatrical production of “The Diary Of Anne Frank”.  Since then, a firm friendship has developed between us based around various geekeries, chocolate, tea and a fascination for each other’s homelands.
As I’m the main resident Whovian for this blog, I’d better run through my credentials.  I’ve been watching “Doctor Who” for as long as I can remember, in fact I’m pretty sure that I remember watching Jon Pertwee’s final story, “Planet Of The Spiders”, the first time around back in 1974.  Although I like what each of the actors who have portrayed the Doctor bring to their performance, I must admit that my favourites are Peter Davison from the Classic era and it’s difficult to call between David Tennant and Matt Smith.  A case of, to paraphrase Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, splendid fellows… all of them.
I watched the programme up until the “hiatus” in 1989, waited patiently for a return during “The Wilderness Years” with only the Doctor Who Magazine along with the numerous videos, books, conventions and audio releases to keep me going, and then welcomed the programme’s return in 2005.
Alongside my love for “Doctor Who”, I also enjoy watching “Sherlock”, “Whitechapel”, “Broadchurch”, “Call The Midwife”, “The Great British Bake Off”, “Poirot”, “Man v Food” and “The Big Bang Theory” (when I can get time to watch TBBT), plus the various Sherlock Holmes series starring the late Jeremy Brett.  In fact, if it’s good television, I’ll give it a go – just don’t point me to “Reality TV” like “Big Brother”.
Away from the TV, my big passions are supporting my local rugby league team, watching athletics, visiting places of interest such as London, Belfast and York, especially museums, cinema, live theatre – where I have seen over 40 plays and musicals, and reading – especially young adult fiction, books related to my geeky interests and biographies.

Well, that’s it from me, for now.  If you’d like to follow me on Twitter, please check out my profile here, and if you’d like to check out my blog, “The Wandering Bookworm”, please check it out here.  It’ll be lovely to meet more geeky people.
