Ten Inch Hero, a movie review.

Hi my hot cute girly and boy geeks, another day, another movie review.

This time, ten inch hero. Now why would a geek review a romantic comedy? There is an explanation for this. Because it’s a cult film amongst Supernatural fans, due to the fact that Jensen Ackles and his wife Danneel Harris, both play lead roles in it. Without Supernatural I wouldn’t know if it existents. As always, spoilers, although I doubt you can spoiler a romantic comedy.

Synopsis according to the official site:

Four friends deal with their love lives and learn about themselves while working in a funky sandwich shop in Santa Cruz, California.

With the poignant humor and heart of Diner, The Breakfast Club, and Mystic Pizza, here comes Ten Inch Hero much more than just a sandwich, it’s a story about finding love where you least expect it.

Sex, love and laughs are part of the everyday life in this hip little sub shop in Santa Cruz.

For the group of friends who work there, it’s an oasis on the complex journey through relationships, a place where they have each other to lean on as they find their way.

Piper, an accomplished artist, comes to town in search of the child she gave up for adoption years earlier, but is surprised at what she finds.

Tish is a knockout… and a nymphomaniac.  But when will she learn that sex is more than a weapon and find true love?

The irreverent and horny Priestly dispenses free-wheeling comic advice to everyone, but how long can he hide his own feelings?

Shy Jen watches life pass by, afraid to reach out, except through her e-mail romance with a mysterious stranger.  Maybe after Piper and Tish teach her a few things, she’ll be ready to meet her online lover in person.

Trucker, a surfer child of the 60s, knows about life.  He owns the sub shop, after all.  So why does he need his young staff to help him discover the love of his life?

The sign out front says it all: “Help Wanted: normal people need not apply.”

My thoughts:

Let me just start with the fact that I adore this movie. It’s funny, crazy, insane, a bit romantic and just the right cure if you had a crappy day. Pay attention to the t-shirts Priestly (Jensen) is wearing. The banter between the characters, the innuendo and sex jokes. I love it all.

tih-behind-the-scenes-ten-inch-hero-9127812The story is about Piper; coming to Santa Cruz to find her daughter she had to give up for adoption thanks to her parents. She finds a job at this sandwich shop, which makes you wonder, cause it already seems overstaffed as it is and there aren’t that many customers. She is an amazing artist and thinks she has found her daughter. She sneaks into her ‘daughters’ life while making friends with her coworkers.

The beautiful Tish, screwing everything that moves. I love how the traditional role for a male is now given to a female. Using her awesome woman powers to naamloos3wrap guys around her little finger. And yes, that works every time. But she finally sees the light.

Jen, a shy computer geek, why do computer geeks always have to be shy? I’m a computer geek, and definitely not shy. Who has a good heart, gives sandwiches to the homeless and chats with a guy online for more than a year before they decide to meet. And it doesn’t end well the first time. But as any romantic comedy, they finally get the chance to meet in real life and face to face and all is happy in the world again.

ten-inch-heroDon’t let me start about Priestly. A crossing between punk/Goth kinda guy, again with a heart of gold. (There must be something in the water in Santa Cruz, or they spike the sandwiches.) He makes the sandwiches, has a crush on Tish, and can keep up his masculinity while wearing a skirt and buying tampons. His shirts are awesome and his remarks are snappy and right to the point.

Trucker, the owner of the shop, gives everyone his flower power wisdom and is in love with the lady across the street. But is he really a hippy? He does have theI_Ten_Inch_Hero_1690013 awesome wheels and the laid back attitude. You can just picture him smoking pot on the toilet when business is slow.

All these characters intermingle (no not like that!) and learn more about themselves throughout the movie. They grow, they grow-up and they finally become who they are meant to be. Although I’m not sure about Priestly in his neat clothes at the end. I kinda loved that punker look. So you can look at this movie in naamloos2two ways. Just a fun romantic comedy to get your mood up, or a deep soul-searching journey in the lives of a group of people who at first sight wouldn’t have anything in common.

Wow, that was deep. Either way, so you want to watch it now?

I really like this movie, Jensen Ackles in a lot of make-up (omg I look like a painted whore!) the fun, laughter, romantic, jokes, innuendo, etc. So I rate this movie 8 out of 10!
